An executive order from the Obama Administration requires government data to be open and machine readable (while ensuring privacy, confidentially, national security and all of that).
In addition, there’s an Open Data github repository with guidelines, code, tools, use cases… any thing you’d need as an agency of the Federal Government to bring the Executive Order into fruition.
This is definitely worth staying tuned.
